An Overview of Non Starch Polysaccharide

چکیده
Accepted: 02/03/2015 Abstract Polysaccharides are macromolecules of monosaccharides linked by glycosidic bonds. Polysaccharides are widespread biopolymers, which quantitatively represent the most important group of nutrients in feed. These are major components of plant materials used in rations for monogastrics. Non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) contain ß-glucans, cellulose, pectin and hemicellulose. NSP consist of both soluble and insoluble fractions. Soluble NSP of cereals such as wheat, barley and rye increases intestinal viscosity there by interfere with the digestive processes and exert strong negative effects on net utilisation of energy. NSP cannot be degraded by endogeneous enzymes and therefore reach the colon almost indigested. Insoluble NSP make up the bulk in the diets. NSP are known to posses anti-nutritional properties by either encapsulating nutrients and/or depressing overall nutrient digestibility through gastro-intestinal modifications.

Extrusion of Peas (Pisum sativum L.): Effects on the Apparent Metabolisable Energy and Ileal Nutrient Digestibility of Broilers
Problem statement: The potential feeding values of grain legumes, such as peas (Pisum sativum), are limited because of the presence of anti-nutritional factors. In particular, protease inhibitors are of interest, but these can be readily destroyed by thermal treatments. In the present study, the influence of extrusion on the chemical composition and nutritive value of peas was evaluated. Approa...

The effects of non-starch polysaccharide (NSP) content of wheat and xylanase supplementation (XS) of the diet, on intestinal enzyme activity (amylase, aminopeptidase and lipase), fat digestibility and ileal viscosity of laying hens has been studied. Two hundred forty Hy-Line W-36 layer from 20 to 25 week of age were studied under a factorial experiment (4×2) in completely randomized design with...
متن کاملPerformance of Broiler Chicken Fed Sub-Optimal Energy Diets Supplemented With Enzymes and Prebiotics Alone or in Combination
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of supplementing Non-starch Polysaccharide enzymes and prebiotics alone or in combination to sub-optimal energy corn soybeanbased broiler diets on performance. 150 day old broiler chicks were randomly distributed in to five experimental groups, six replicates per group and five birds per replicate. A standard diet (SD) and a basal diet (BD) (225 k...
متن کاملThe impact of high non-starch polysaccharide intake on serum micronutrient concentrations in a cohort of women.
OBJECTIVE Many public health campaigns encourage increased fibre consumption, but short-term studies suggest that various components of dietary fibre inhibit the absorption of certain micronutrients including carotenoids. These do not take into account long-term adaptation to nutrient intake levels. We aimed to investigate the effect of non-starch polysaccharide (NSP) fibre on plasma micronutri...
متن کاملThe Isolation and Characterization of a Starch Polysaccharide from the Leaf Tissue of the Apple Tree (malus Malus)”
In a previous investigation conducted in this laboratory (1) a starch polysaccharide, apparently identical with the watersoluble component of the common cereal and tuber starches, was isolated from the woody tissue of the apple tree (Malus malus). Thus it appears that starches of widely different origin may contain a common water-soluble polysaccharide. Through an application of the method (2) ...
